After a busy day at work, well, if you’d even want to call it that, Helo slumped down in a chair in the rec room.

He spent the day doing a check of his ship with the deck crew.

FTL spools, check.

Navigation system, check.

Everything, check.

Tedious work, yes. It definitely was. But if it kept Sharon and his’s raptor flying, it did.

Sliding back in his chair, his toes rising above his heels, Helo pondered what sort of fun the Galactica crew would get up to tonight.

21:30. Day One Aboard Galactica

Sharon has switched into her fatigues after her long day of flight drills. Technically she’s met her ECO, Karl “Helo” Agathon, during their briefing in the morning, but they haven’t flown together yet. In the moments before their assignments, she had a good impression of him: easy-going, kind, possibly a bit too suave for his own good.

She enters the head to brush her teeth and happens to pick the sink next to him. She watches him shave for a moment, looks at her toothbrush, and decides this is the chance to properly introduce herself.

Hey. You’re Helo, right? I think you’re my ECO.

Kara steps out of the shower with just enough time to hear the newbie (Sharon? Girl needs a call sign) make awkward small talk with Helo.

With a towel just barely covering her, Kara grins at the two, slapping Helo on the back.

“Damn straight he is. Best ECO on board!.”

Sorry, dirt’s not exactly exciting to me. Glad you’ve got what you wanted, though. Be grateful for that. Most of us never get to know what that feels like.

It’s not so much the dirt, as what’s in it. :) If you had the choice of anything— anything in the worlds besides flying a Viper, what would you want to do?

Played Pyramid before joining the Military. It was a good run, before I blew out my knee. Lucky for me, Vipers don’t require you to jump.

Wow, sir. Remind me not to challenge you to a Pyramid tournament. You’ll kick my ass.

But I just wanted to thank you for your mentorship during flight training. I know we didn’t interact much, but I appreciate everything you taught me. Are you staying groundside post-Colonial Day or are you looking to transfer?

Already on Galactica. Headed up here early. Needed to take care of some business. Do you know your assignment yet, Ensign?

No sir, I have to wait until Colonial Day tomorrow. I’m hoping for the Galactica, sir. I hear only good things about her.

It’s the best ship, good crew. I love her.

I thought about Zak today.

Stupid statement, I know, because I always think about Zak at some point throughout the day. He was my brother - I can’t just forget about him. Everyone else seems to be moving on and I’m just stuck remembering all the things that we had talked about doing together one day, and how I’m going to have be doing those things without him.

Frak.

I need to get ahold of myself. I’m a frakking viper pilot for the Colonies. Kara once told me that I need to stop thinking and start doing, so maybe it’s time that I just try to put it all behind me and focus on flying. Things are always just a little bit more clear for me up there anyway.

Nobody is forgetting Zak.

They may be frakked, but you’re missing out on the best experience of your life. There’s nothing in the world quite like flying your own ship.

I dunno. Have you ever been on a dig? Touched something older than anyone and anything you’ve ever known? There’s nothing like having an actual, physical connection to your past. (Also, I’ll get paid to play in the dirt. All I’ve ever wanted since I was five years old.)

I’m really glad I decided to go the non-military route. Gwen and Sharon would appear to be royally frakked.

Saw Lee’s name pop up on the status log for Battlestar Atlantia. Haven’t spoken to him since… well, that doesn’t matter. It seem’s Lee is doing just fine.

I might have drank a little over my limit last night. At least, that’s what Helo says, and since he carried to me to my bed, I suppose he could be right.

Frak, I’m getting old.

New recruits coming in soon. Looking forward to seeing their bright and hopeful faces before we get to burst their bubbles.

Mess hall. Tonight.

Any of you losers want to play a game of cards, meet me in the mess hall after Viper duty.

I’ve got a bottle of Haqryliw to kill and a cigar to smoke.

Have you ever been arrested for something you didn't do, or gotten away with something you did?

Hahahahaha! Honey, I’ve spent more time in a cell than any 23 year old woman should, but I earned every night. I’m not ashamed of it. Live fast, darlin’.
